I was a Teenage Witch: Craft and materials based sculptural practice informed by contemporary popular Girl Culture and the Teen Witch icon.

In the mid to late 1990s, the lives of many young Western women were altered by a unique cultural milieu; popular culture, through various mediums, encouraged the involvement of young women in witchcraft. My honours research investigated, through theoretical and practice-led research, the development of Western Girl Culture within the late 20th century, focusing on the emergence of the Teen Witch as a symbolic “Girl Power” icon of the era and culminating in a body of primarily sculptural and image-based work.
